White Rooms Press release - written for White Rooms
Restoring the White Rooms – a masterpiece in Bruges
To say that Bruges is one of the most beautiful cities in the world is no overstatement. Recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the city of Bruges is a picture postcard perfect representation of Medieval Flanders, with stunning architecture, a network of canals, beautiful gardens and quaint cobblestoned streets which still ring out with the sound of traditional horse- drawn carriages.
In this atmospheric and irresistibly picturesque historic city, Natalie Haegeman has been endeavouring to restore the White Rooms – a selection of traditional guesthouses that have been artfully brought back to life, retaining their innate charm, character and history – whilst incorporating all the conveniences expected by the modern traveller.
Based in Belgium, Natalie Haegeman’s approach to interior design is characterised by a sensitivity to beauty and history, creating charming spaces that retain their natural authenticity. With a pitch-perfect eye for restoration projects and over 18 years of experience, Natalie adeptly combines new and old elements, to create something seamless and unique.
Located right in the heart of Bruges, the two White Rooms are perfectly positioned for the city visitor, with all of its major attractions within convenient walking distance. The best part of a stay at the White Rooms however, must be the feeling of stepping back in time, into a world of refinement, understated luxury and discreet elegance. Simply leave aside the hectic pace of the modern urban world, and immerse yourself in these calm and beautiful surroundings.
During its golden age in the medieval years, Bruges was renowned for its weaving, textiles, art and architecture, and Natalie retains this sense of history throughout the White Rooms restoration project. Decorated in a soothing and unobtrusive neutral palette, floors are covered with luxuriously dense woven rugs, while fine linen covers the beds. Minimalistic furnishing is upholstered in comforting tones to give a contemporary feel, while traditional woven baskets adorn the walls.
No visit to Bruges can be complete without partaking of the delicious local cuisine, and guests at the White Rooms can enjoy some of the finest delicacies on offer from nearby tearooms and restaurants. From warm, golden Belgian waffles and biscuits, world-renowned Belgian chocolate, cheeses, meats and seafood, to one of the hundreds of different types of beer to choose from, there is something for a connoisseur of every persuasion. And after a day of culinary indulgence, enjoy a relaxing walk through the city’s winding streets or follow along the canals – or if you feel up to it, climb the 366 steps to the top of the famous medieval Belfort.
